The Olympic Spirit

The Olympic Spirit in Action

The Olympic Spirit

not to win but to take part

The Olympic spirit is best expressed in the Olympic Creed:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

Abbey D'Agostino of the United States collided with Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand in a women's 5000m qualifying race. In true Olympic spirit, they helped each other out, and despite being banged up, they both ran another mile to finish the race.

    17. Yes because the Olymipc Spirit is to take part not to win, and the girl helped up the New Zealand Runner even though they were in the middle of a race. The girl didn't care about winning she wanted to help even when they weren't from the same country and weren't going to win a medal for their country. - Iñaki

  2. These two runners were both given a place in the final. Do you think this was fair to the other runners who did not run fast enough to secure a place in the final?
